is the ultimate car, truck and motorcycle trailer!
Trailer Plans are Revealed
for the first time!
By Wally Cass, Towing
Business Owner and Operator. Trailer Designer and Builder
If you are
looking to purchase a trailer for towing cars, trucks, and motorcycles
then I have the ultimate trailer plans for you that was designed
and built by myself, many years ago, in 1998 and now I am making
the trailer plans available exclusively for the first time. Read
this entire article to see how the trailer plans will benefit you.
I have been in the tow truck business for over twenty
five years and I have towed thousands of cars, trucks and all types
of equipment. I have never had a damage claim since starting my
independent towing service in 1995 and I don't think too many towing
operators can actually say that. I can attribute this damage free
record simply by my choice of using this trailer as my prefered
method for towing cars, trucks and motorcycles. Of course, I must
also know how to hook up to the vehicle properly.
For those of you who are thinking about starting
a tow truck or towing business or maybe you already own a towing
business, let me explain briefly how this trailer will benefit
you and how I started my tow truck business with minimal cost.
I will tell you why I chose to operate with this type of trailer
and why it is the ultimate trailer for towing cars, trucks and
motorcycles in the light duty class. I have towed medium duty vehicles
with this trailer but it's really designed for the light duty class
under one ton.
I started my tow truck business with very little
investment back in 1995. It may not have been glamorous starting
with a Ford f-150 and a used tilt car trailer but it got me started
in the tow truck business with very little investment.
tow truck business in 1995
"Not Glamorous but it worked"
I already owned
the truck and the cost for the used car trailer was minimal.
Who wants to take out a loan for expensive towing equipment?
I sure didn't.
The tow trailer only had 3500
lb. axles which also tilted with the bed and this definitely
needed improvement. The rear axle took all the weight.
Not a very good tilt trailer design.
For economical reasons I also decided to tow only
in the light duty class, all cars, motorcycles and pick up trucks
up to one ton (excluding one tons). The one ton tow trucks are
the start of the medium duty class.
I worked for this towing
company for seven years prior to starting my own tow truck
business. I enjoyed driving this Peterbuilt 18 speed in
the heavy duty class which was a real challenge at times.
I drove every kind of tow truck
out there and my years of prior experience told me the hydraulic
tilt car trailer was the only way to start my tow truck business.
I knew the hydraulic tilt car trailers had
a huge advantage over conventional flatbed and wheel lift
tow trucks when it came to damage free towing, due to the
low profile loading angle of a car trailer.
Also being that it was a goose neck, fifth wheel
type setup, I could jack knife the trailer, getting into spots
that conventional flatbed tow trucks could not get into.
Advantages of towing with a hydraulic tilt
Low profile loading angle for damage free
towing. Tow exotic cars and low riders.
You don't have to worry about the drive train
(such as the transmission) on the vehicle being towed. "Unlike
a conventional tow truck where you might have to get out the
dolly wheels and place them under the drive axle which is labor
Loading and unloading a vehicle is extremely fast.
Towing motorcycles is easy and requires no additional
I don't have to go through the truck scales because
I am under 16000 GVW.
I can get into some really tight places as opposed
to a conventional flatbed tow truck.
Insurance is cheaper.
I can disconnect the trailer and still use the
truck for service calls or personal use.
The tow truck is more comfortable to ride in
Cheaper to purchase or to build (I have trailer
After my tow truck business was established and I
had a steady income rolling in, I decided that It was time for
newer towing equipment and frankly, no one built the type of equipment
that I wanted to use for my towing business and I couldn't find
the proper trailer plans, So I decided to build my own towing trailers.
I actually built two of them.
"The New and Improved
The objective was to build the trailer with the lowest
possible loading angle and yet have the fender height remain low
enough for all vehicle doors to clear the fenders when the doors
are opened. The outcome was: the trailer bed height is only 17.5
inches off the ground and only requires the bed to tilt one and
half feet to hit the ground. I couldn't have been happier with
the trailers low profile loading angle and opening the vehicles
door when loaded cleared the trailers fenders easily.
Car door clears
The cost to build this trailer
was approximately $10,000 in materials. I easily justified
the use of a credit card to purchase the materials as this
was a income producing purchase and the debt could be paid
back in only a couple of months, therefore the interest was
I used only the best materials I could find.
I used Torflex 7000 lb dual axles with built in suspension
which did not require additional suspension parts
like leaf springs and hangers. Therefore the maintenance costs
were diminished. I also used diamond plate steel decking which
not only looked good but vehicles with a missing wheel or two would
slide off easier. If you decide to use a trailer with a wood deck
the vehicle missing a wheel will only dig into the wood and will
not slide off. Even winching the vehicle on the trailer with a
wood deck could be a problem.
If you are looking for a conventional tow truck at
around $10,000, More than likely it will be junk and a older model.
So I was happy to invest $10,000 in towing equipment that was brand
new and built the way I wanted it to perform. The trailer has passed
the test of time and has lasted over 13 years and is still working
today! The trailer has paid for itself many times over.
does not have to tilt very far. 17 inches to be exact.
The Strobe light
was a bit much and later removed. A red light bar was later
added to the truck (as noted below right)
The fenders originally were
made to fold out using hinges, "for those extra wide
loads" but were welded closed after awhile as they
were not needed.
If you decide you want to build your own tilt trailer
then I think you will be very pleased with the looks and performance
of this trailer. Upon inspection for it's first registration, the
state patrol officer told me it was the nicest towing trailer he
had ever seen and he instantly titled the trailer. The compliments
didn't stop there. I receive compliments from almost everyone that
see's it. Getting business accounts is easy once the business owner
sees for himself what type of towing equipment you will be towing
his vehicles with. If you would like to purchase the trailer plans

in the light duty class, unlocking vehicles, and showing proper
towing equipment. Note: The videos mostly show hooking up to a
vehicle using a flatbed as this is my primary and preferred method
of towing. However there are discussions about the wheel lift tow
truck, the good and bad aspects and why you may consider a flatbed
tow truck advantageous over the wheel lift. (ultimately less work
and no worries about the drive train of the vehicle being towed)

I must say that it has been most informative.

By the way it is a great course. I learned
a lot about how to secure the car properly and what
kind of trailer to look for.
Thank you for your site as well as your
advise...the phone is beginning to ring! I am now part

I think the towing information is great.
I purchased last night, pretty good stuff, I have been researching
towing for the past year and this is by far the most
info I have found, specially on the roadside part of
the business which is what I am aiming for. Anyway thanks
I thought it was fantastic, it's very
easy to use and gave me a lot of knowledge on everything
dealing that I'm starting out and the price was fine
and I gave you guys a little extra. I was hoping that
this would help and it did a lot thank you. Yes, I
would recommend to anyone.
I want to thank you for your website
and the material on it. Too often people are unwilling
to share the processes they went through to become
a success and I am very grateful that you are not one
of those people.
I'm excited about finding this towing
information that you have made available because I
asked a friend, that has his own towing service if
there was anywhere I could get towing training beforehand
and he told me there was no type of training available,
other than hands on working with or for someone already
in business. That bothered me, so I searched on line
to see for myself if it was so. and came across your
site and got excited and shared this with him. I told
him that this could help him also to build his knowledge
on towing. and He was so surprised and told me thanks
for letting him know about it. so I will be forwarding
this site information to him.
Thanks again for all the
info you have taken the time to put together. I have
found it very useful in my business planning. I am
currently trying to startup a roadside assistance business.
I am in Raleigh N.C. Thanks again!!!
Just want to tell you how valuable your information has been
to us. I'm not sure what would have happened to our start

"Wow, wally , I am Luis Chacon and I purchased
1 flatbed on Ebay about 10 months ago. I paid for your
website and to become a member. I read every word in
it and followed your direction and instruction. My son
asked me "dad you think we can do this ?" I
told him wally said we can and if he did it so can we
, we just need to be "about the business," our
business . The tow truck I purchased was a 99 chevy c6500
for $8000 in basalt Colorado , we drove up there and
drove it 1500 Miles back to San Antonio Texas in one
of the worst snow storms Colorado had, after that trip
I told my son tbis, " josh , the determination we
showed just to drive that truck and get home in one piece
is the same determination we need to put into the business.
Wally we had never ever been in the tow business before.
We had never even been in a tow truck, but with your
advice and our determination we now have 3 truck 4 service
trucks and we are buying another truck in the next week
or so. We will do around $350,000.00 in our first year!
I called all the motor clubs, I called every garage,
I called every company in the city , I called every tow
truck company and told them if they get backed up I can
help them at a discount rate. I worked 24/7 and I haven't
taken a day off , and I haven't accepted no as an answer
to anything, I have made friends and enemies , I have
been able to have my wife quite her job and work with
us. I have been able to send one of my son's to school
, and I have 7 children. Wally I never post and I rarely
look at website anymore, not because I don't want to
but because I am always towing. Wally I just want to
tell you this: You changed my life, and I never said
thank you, so here it is "THANK YOU WALLY CASS" .....it

I have talked to other people about going into

They say you wont be able to get motor clubs like AAA to contract
with you is that true?
Let me thank you ahead for your time.
I don’t know about the one particular account “AAA” that
you mentioned as I don’t like their towing rates. So I
never attempted to contract with them. However I have contracted
with all the other major motor clubs since 1995 while using my
trailer and I have had no problems signing on. Maybe some of
the towing providers are getting turned away because of poor
quality trailers? Or may it’s a combination of bad, old
trailers or insurance requirements not met.
