How to Unlock Cars

unlocking a car

By Wally Cass Towing business owner and operator

With the early style cars and manual pull up button locks it was easy to unlock a car with a slim jim but not anymore. Cars today have electronics inside the door and side air bags that can be easily damaged by using a slim jim. Today it is imperative to learn the right way and modern way to unlock a car.

Besides facing problems with the electronics and side air bags in the door there are also anti theft devices which block entry into the door. In most cases it is impossible to unlock a car using the old fashion method of slim jims or rods inserted in the doors locking mechanism area.

As an experienced towing business owner and operator I have been using a modern system to unlock cars and trucks in under three minutes. I have never had a problem with damaging anything. Here is the simple and cost effective way to unlock cars.

Tools Needed:

  • Plastic Wedge
  • Airbag or Airwedge as some call it.
  • Long Rod about 55" in length

Insert wedge in door in the upper outer corner. insert wedge just far enough to allow for the air bag to slide in. Pump the air bag until the gap is wide enough to allow for the rod to be inserted in the door. Bend rod as necessary to hit electric button locks or manual door lock. You can also use your rod to adjust the inside rear view mirror to aim your vision toward the electric button locks.
